Honoring our past and celebrating our future 

Beyond celebrating this historic moment in American history, the purpose of the event is grounded in ensuring the preservation of our city’s African American history and culture. The celebration will target a diverse group of attendees of all ages. This family-focused free celebration will include programming for the entire family. The objectives of the Annapolis Juneteenth Celebration are to:

• Produce an annual celebration that honors the rich history and memory of enslaved Africans

• Deepen the community’s knowledge of Juneteenth and the African American experience through arts, education, and performance

• Bring together stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and cultures to celebrate freedom and build community

• Encourage and impact the youth in our community to love and participate in learning opportunities that build knowledge of African history, culture, and art

• Showcase the city of Annapolis as a premier destination for African American arts and culture 

• Creatively express the memory, values, traditions, and customs of African Americans
